Anomaly Vineyards

A Berkeley, California transplant's view of becoming an Accidental Vintner.

Going Once, Going Twice, Sold!

It's that time of year again. The Napa Valley Wine Auction began on Thursday and will end Saturday night with the live auction and dinner at Meadowood. We are not currently vintner members, so unfortunately, I won't be able to give you the scoop on what goes on inside the big tent. However, we were all at the barrel auction/tasting today held at Sutter Home Winery. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best part of the auction. Vintners and their "thief’s" stand at their barrels and give you tastes of their wines that have yet to be bottled—and dozens of Napa Valley chefs, caterers, and restaurateurs give you samples of their culinary talents. I had trouble pulling Steve away from Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen ribs and Stomp's tomato consume. This Sunday, from 11am to 3 pm the St. Helena Viticultural Society (more on that in a different blog) will hold it's first tasting at the Crocker Estate in St. Helena. There will be 29 wineries all from the St. Helena appellation pouring their current vintages. Steve volunteered me to be on the committee to plan this event (boy, does he owe me). It was a lot of work, a lot of planning, and a lot of fun. I'll report on Monday on how it went. Until then, Chantico!
